What is the best free website builder to use?

I want to start a small informative website that I can sell products and have direct links to documents and other pages. I would also like to add a feature that you need to have a password and login ID to access the page. What internet site should I use?

Have you taken a look at Microsoft Office Live Small Business? The web design function is template based so you will not need to have any web coding knowledge. You can create a domain name, company email and shopping cart. Best of all our Small Business websites are affordable and ad free.

Check out some success stories here http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/en-US/customer-gallery

The process of making the site can be simplified by WYSIWYG editors such as dreamweaver. But it would be recommended to learn hand-coding as well, since such editors, or incorrect usage of same, is known to produce invalid code, and bad cross-browser combatility.

You can learn how to hand-code your pages at websites such as and

Its recommended to atleast learn HTML combined with CSS, and then forget about all the deprecated attributes and elements used for presentation.

Its also important to validate your code, for this you can use the w3c markup validator at: – The W3C Markup Validation Service
Along with the CSS validator at: – CSS Validator

Many website hosts also got their own free templates, as well as their own WYSIWYG editor, the templates may help when aiming to get valid coded pages.

you would want to make your pick between one of the many free hosts.

I prefer Edit Plus, although NVU makes it a little easier for the look of the site.

I recommend since it has a lot of options for setting up what you need in the autoinstaller. Including Joomla which sounds like what you may need.

They also give 350MB of space and 100GB of bandwidth for free without ads on your pages.

    I recommend SynthaSite:.

SynthaSite provides a completely free website building and hosting. You can easily build an informative website to sell products. The File widget allows you to easily create links to documents. The Link editor will also come in handy when you want to link to other sites, a page in your site, an email address or a file.

SynthaSite has a feature that allows you to password protect your entire site, or selected page/s on your site.

    Give it a try!
