Which software or on-line website creation method do you recommend for those new to website development?

I’m looking to create a basic website (approximately six pages) and have the option of a message board and possibly merchant services (exp., PayPal). I have limited knowledge of html and have never constructed a site. Your suggestions are appreciated.

I would start by going to htmlgoodies.com to learn the basics. That site has tons of easy to follow tutorials and sample codes. A message board and merchant services will be tough for any begginner to do. The PayPal website can help you out with that. If you sign up for one of their merchant accounts they will actually GIVE you the code and instructions on how to put it on your website, for FREE!

parkerjr2 is right about learning a bit more stuff.

You might also consider godaddy which has templated sites, forums, shopping carts and so on. Not expensive either.

Nothing prevents you from having your site and forum on one host and the shopping cart on another (yahoo has a shopping cart service which many people use – you don’t even realize it’s yahoo until you check out).
