If your current internet provider is Earthlink, AOL, SBC Global and others which provide a homepage; you can easily FTP your own webpage designs as a new homepage. Try using the freebie HTML authoring tool called Composer which comes free with any Netscape browser. And using a redirection service such as mydomain.com or the forwarding of a parked domain name at godaddy.com, you can easily “mask” the homepage URL with a proper domain name. So in a sense, you have a working ecommerce website disguised as a homepage while still paying your normal monthly Internet access and hosting fee.

Only a very few free sites allow you to use FTP to upload so you’ll be limited to the number of files they allow using their Uploader Utility after you log into your account.

You can use GIMP instead of Photoshop to make layouts (GIMP is free). And you can use Komodo Edit instead of dreamweaver (Komodo Edit is also free).
