I want to build a website but server is too expensive what can i do?

I inqiured a local webserver of costs to build my own website . They said a really good one would be 125 a month…..or a generic one that is really slow would be19.95 a month. I have about 10 gig to put up on the website. Its not a business site just a hobby of mine. Is that all the options i have?

Give Dreamhost a try. They start at like $10/month. Plus they have a 90 day cancellation period. If you don’t like it, then cancel.

10Gig is a lot of space but you don’t need a dedicated server – there are many, many cheap virtual server accounts that will probably do just fine.

Why do you think you need your own server?

Start with a shared account and upgrade as you learn more about how it works and how folks use your files.

Use free solution such as Google Site, WordPress, and many other sites on the internet. I prefer Google Site (http://sites.google.com)

    You can either:

    A) Search for free web hosting (they will place ads on your pages).

    B) Find cheap shared web hosting (bluehost.com is a good one).

    C) Make the pages on you computer if you only want to be able to see them. This will limit you to javascript and HTML unless you install the server side software.

    D) Use blogs like word press or blogger to play around with code.

Personally, I think “B” would be your best option. Cheap hosting can be as little as $5 to $10. Plus if you put Google Adsense or Yahoo Ads on the pages you play around on you may make a couple bucks on the side and that might be able to pay for the hosting.

It kinda depends on what the 10 gig is of. If it is 10 gigs of video or 10 gigs of audio then the site will be a bit slower unless you have a dedicated server. Same if it is 1000 pictures that are 10 megs each.

Search online for “top web hosting sites”

you get a list of web sites as well as prices per month and features, compare them and choose the one that best fits your needs. Try to search for reviews on the web hosting sites from different sources to be sure that it’s really what its managers say it is!

If it’s just a hobby site of yours with less than a hundred thousands monthly visitors, any shared host will do.

    I recommend one of these

Fatcow has the best offer right now.
    Their standard price is $88/year
but they have the 50% sale right now.

    Disk space: Unlimited
    Bandwidth: Unlimited
    A Free domain name
    Unlimited domains and subdomains

    Price: $44/year

They’re one of the oldest hosting companies, founded 1998, they’re also one of the largest, currently hosting about 500,000 websites.
Their hosting plan includes a web builder, so you can create your site just by drag and drop (without any programming), or you could install Wordpress (easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content.
