If you want an official site you will have to pay for the .com or .net domain name (about $8 or less) unless you can find someone to transfer a domain to you for free. I don’t know how you would find such an arrangement though.
You said you don’t like FreeWebs, but another option similar would be The Village (www.thevillage.com). You would have a domain name like yoursite.thevillage.com for free. You can then decide later if you want to buy an “official” domain name.
